National Cycle Network
Routes  5  and  54 - Oxford - Lichfield / Lichfield - Derby.


 


Heritage country Lanes and the canal system around Lichfield are  pleasant to cycle along, lots of variety and flat ish.

Lichfield District council produce a series of excellent leaflets for cyclist which are available at council offices, libraries, and the local Tourist Information centre. For further information Leisure

GETTING TO LICHFIELD
Lichfield can be easily reached by Train from any Cross City Line station. Trains are very frequent, 7 Day's a week and carry cycles free of charge. Lichfield City and Trent Valley  stations are both very convenient for cyclists.  There are step's at Trent Valley station.  Lichfield City has a passenger Lift.     
    Cycle Parking at both stations.

Trent valley station has a cycle route connecting to National Cycle Route 54,  Lichfield North.

 



Three  rides from Lichfield's Beacon Park.
Route 5
. From Beacon Park  follow route 5 ( West) to Chase Water Country Park, with its figure of eight circuit. "The Nelson" ,

 [on route], at Chorley is a useful refreshment stop. This route follows country lanes and is hilly.


At Chase water country park there are miles of traffic free riding right into Gas Street Basin, Birmingham,  Walsall, or Wolverhampton.

 

Follow route 5 to Walsall or canal towing paths to other centres


 

 

Route 54From Beacon Park follow route 54  North to Fradley Canal Junction, or continue North  to   Alrewas with its canal side walk, Village church  and  refreshment stop,  William IV    01283 790206. 


You can carry on until you reach the "Royal Oak", [on route], at Barton-under-Needwood. Barton has a splendid village church,  pond, and canal marina.        (Country lanes and Flat).
 

National Memorial Arboretum
Route 54.  From Beacon Park follow route 54 North to canal bridge at Fradley. Then turn right and follow signed cycle link, to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. (Country Lanes and Flat)
 


Route 63 is being developed between Lichfield / Shenstone / Little Aston / Sutton Park, and Birmingham.

 

Route is open from Gas Street, Birmingham. to Sutton Park.
