Cycling Books  -  Cycling Books

Hi there,

We are a small independent publisher who specialises in cycling titles. To coincide with National Bike Week (www.bikeweek.org) we are publishing two books.

50 Quirky Bike Rides in England & Wales by Rob Ainsley

Thunder & Sunshine is the sequel to Alastair Humphreys epic 5 year cycle around the world on a budget of £7000 which Sir Ranulph Fiennes hailed as “the first great adventure of the new millennium”.

We have printed an A5 leaflet with details about our bike books with a special offer. We are hoping to distribute at various events during next week. It is promoting not only these books, but other cycling books from our list. The printed offer is replicated on www.eye-books.com/bikeweek and wondered if you would be willing to let your members know about the offer.

I hope that this will be of interest to you and your members.

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS -

ADVENTURE ON THE NORTH SEA CYCLE ROUTE

by Bernie Friend

Hello fellow Cycling folk,

I have just written a book about my cycling trip around the North Sea Cycle Route to raise money for Cancer Research UK, after very sadly losing both my mother and mother-in-law to brain tumours, within just 12 months of each other.

I made the trip as a tribute to them and to beat my own fears and travelling phobias. It may sound like depressing material for the razor-to-wrist brigade, but is the complete opposite - an uplifting tale of two wheeled therapy on an inner and outer journey through northern Europe's obscure cycling backwaters, with kind and quirky strangers on the road helping put a smile back on my face. It does just what it says on the tin!

A mention somewhere, on your websites or club newsletters, would be a massive help and greatly appreciated!

Thanks for listening,

Bernie Friend

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS - ADVENTURE ON THE NORTH SEA CYCLE ROUTE

by Bernie Friend

'Don't let your biggest fears stand in the way of your dreams, even if your biggest dreams happen to be your biggest fears.'

That was exactly Bernie Friend's attitude when he ditched medication and group therapy to overcome a very unwanted companion - paranoia. A complete novice to long distance cycling, Bernie confronted many demons on his epic journey - a coastal cycle route which circles 6,000 kilometres of the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Scotland and England.

Arm wrestling drunken trawlermen, a geriatric half marathon, Viking bring-and-buy sales, decapitated pirates, burning witches, Shakin' Stevens mega mixes, sea crossing motorways, walking sand giants and remote islands which most people can’t even be bothered to mark on a map are just some of the secrets coughed up by the North Sea Cycle Route.

Michael Palin and Bill Bryson watch out! Bernie's very personal story told in an easy-going travelogue style will have you hooked from start to finish.

Hugely entertaining and downright inspirational!
Bravest book we have read this year - ADVENTURE TRAVEL MAGAZINE STAR BOOK
Candid, heart-warming and hilarious - LONDON CYCLIST

Published by Pen Press (ISBN 9781906206710), Cycling Back to Happiness is available to buy and order in all book stores, or on www.amazon.co.uk, www.waterstones.com and www.sustransshop.co.uk

Bike Ride Books

 'The Full English',

From one end of England to the other.

The Full English

Hi

We wondered if you would mind letting your members know about a bike book whose route takes in places they probably know?

The book is 'The Full English', which has had comment from the cycling press such as:

  • London Cyclist: "...articulate and witty account of one fortysomething man's quest to ride from one end of England to the other..."
  • Arrivée: "An easily read book, humorous, well written and full of the eccentricities of the English."
  • Velo Vision: "A great read. A lightening guide to the country with simple un-heroic endeavour and humour."
  • Cycling Plus: "9/10. A delightfully individual account of tripping the length of England by bike."
  • Cycletourer http://www.cycletourer.co.uk/cycletouring/bookreview.shtml: "Mike's easy reading and descriptive style has you riding alongside him from the start. This witty account had me giggling out loud many a time."
