Ride for fun and get “fit” as a bonus. Pedal back the years. Change to a healthier lifestyle You maybe out of condition, carrying more weight than you would prefer, cycling and fresh air will really help. If your interested in getting started, need some company or local route knowledge , just get in touch.
Feel the freedom your bike can give.
Don’t forget, to always carry food and plenty of liquid. Light weight water proof clothing, and warm jumper, plus an OS map. Spare inner tube, pump, and tool kit. A first aid kit is a good idea! Always follow the country code. Enjoy your ride through the beautiful countryside, leave no trace that you ever passed by, take home only your litter and memories. Start by riding around the Chase Water Country Park, cycle route. It’s very important to start cycling gradually over a period of several weeks. Don’t expect your body to perform miracles from day one, it takes time to build your self up, both mentally and physical. The rewards are well worth going through the “fitness barrier” to reach a new more healthy world. You will need to cycle at least once every week to stay fit. A typical winter club cyclists road mileage is around 30 to 50 miles per ride. In the summer time club rides vary from 40 to 120 miles. Start around 09.00 and stay for lunch at a village inn, (see list), then ride back home before it gets to dark.
After riding around Chase Water Country Park a few times , you should be ready for National cycle Network “Route 5” to Pelsall and Walsall nearly all traffic free. Or along quiet country lanes of route 5 to Beacon Park Lichfield, enjoy a break in Beacon Park.
Now your ready for “A Day Out” or “Evening Summer Ride”. Start by riding up to Castle Ring, get used to the hills. (Please don't ride around castle ring). When your happy climbing to the ring, your ready to venture into “Cannock Chase”. Down Telegraph hill, and on to Brindley Heath Pumping station / Railway crossing for “Kit bag Hill”. >>> |
With practice you can look forward to enjoying Kit Bag Hill, Sherbrook valley, Milford, Shugborough Park, Great Haywood Packhorse Bridge, along the canal to little Haywood, then Seven springs, and back home through the Chase. Follow the Chase circuit, well signed, easy to follow. What more variety could you ask for, on your door step, without the need for the car. Total Freedom …….
